Living with migraine headaches can be a painful burden and significantly impact daily activities. One of my patients, a 35-year-old female, has experienced migraine headaches since she was a teen. She shared with me that it’s been years since she could do something as simple as enjoy a hot shower because hot showers triggered her migraines.

Unfortunately, the painful burden of migraine headaches is common. Migraines rank in the top 20 of the world’s most disabling medical illnesses and every one in four households has someone affected by migraines.

Knowing many people that are affected by migraines and also knowing that those people have extreme disruptions in their daily living because of migraine pain, I was very intrigued when I learned about SphenoCath, a migraine headache relief treatment.

Discovering Migraine Headache Treatment, SphenoCath

At the end of 2014, I learned about a procedure called the SphenoCath that is effective in treating migraine and cluster headaches and provides ongoing pain relief. The doctors and I at Advanced Radiology researched the procedure and heard testimony about its success. We came to the conclusion that we could truly make a difference in the lives of our patients by offering the SphenoCath procedure at Bryan Medical Center in Lincoln, NE.

After becoming educated and trained on the migraine headache treatment, SphenoCath, we successfully treated our first six patients in December. Since several of our patients were hospital employees, we’ve seen firsthand the difference this treatment has made in their daily lives – and it’s been remarkable!

Each patient is different. For most, one treatment offered immediate and ongoing relief. For those that have suffered with extremely intense migraines with increased frequency for many years, we treat the migraine a few times and with each treatment the pain lessens and the episodes decrease.

Remember the 35-year-old patient I told you about earlier who was unable to enjoy hot showers because they triggered her migraines? She received the SphenoCath treatment at here at Bryan Medical Center and is now thrilled to be able to sink into a hot bath and enjoy a glass of red wine, something that also used to trigger her migraines. She told us, “I didn’t know how much the pain affected me until it was gone.”
